At Stocker Subaru in State College, PA, we want to help you keep your pets safe while you’re on the road. Here are our top safety tips from the #HumaneSociety.

Animals Need to Be Crated
The safest way for your dog or cat to travel in the car is in a crate that has been anchored to the vehicle using a seatbelt or other secure means. It's also important to secure these carriers in the car so that they don't bounce and cause injury to your pet. You can do this by securing a seat belt around the front of the carrier.

Like Small Children, Pets Need to Be in Second or Third Row Seats
Keep your pets out of the front seat. Pets should ride in the back seat of the car. In the event of a collision, a pet could be injured if an airbag is deployed while your pet is in the passenger seat, even if safely inside a crate.

Keep Pets Safely Inside the Car
Dogs and cats should always be kept safely inside the car as they can be injured by flying debris or particles. Never ever transport a pet in the bed of an open pickup truck.

Make Frequent Stops
Stop frequently to allow your pet to exercise and go to the bathroom. Always make sure your pet is wearing a collar, ID tag and leash.

Don’t leave your pets alone in the car
A quick pit stop may feel like no time at all to you, but it's often too long to leave your pet alone in the car. Heat is a killer! Even when it's 72 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature inside your car can heat up to 116 degrees within an hour. Your car can reach 102 degrees in just 10 minutes on an 85-degree day, even with the windows cracked open.
